KELLEE KIM: I just feel a lot of pressure to do right by not
only my own voice, but the voices of many others
who have experienced this, or reached out to me
and shared their stories of inappropriate touching, sexual
harassment, sexual assault.
KYLIE MAR: During the season 39 "Survivor--
Reunion Special," Kellee Kim was given an opportunity
to voice her feelings about how CBS and the show's producers
handle her claims of being inappropriately
touched by another contestant.
KELLEE KIM: I think one of the things that has been, and was,
the hardest thing was the fact that Dan remained in the game
even after I spoke up.
KYLIE MAR: Earlier in the season,
Kellee spoke out about being repeatedly
touched by Dan Spilo, despite her requests to stop.
Producers spoke with Dan at the time,
but he was allowed to stay on the show
and compete, much to Kellee's disbelief.
KELLEE KIM: When someone goes through something like this,
or anything remotely like it, to not be supported--
to not be supported and not be believed
is really the hardest thing.
It's one of the hardest things.
KYLIE MAR: Soon after voicing her concern,
Kellee was eliminated from the competition.
And two weeks later, Dan was kicked off the show
after more allegations of inappropriate behavior
were reported by one of the show's producers.
KELLEE KIM: I think the most important thing, when I think
about this situation and what happened,
is that I hope that this season of "Survivor"
isn't just defined by inappropriate touching
or sexual harassment.
I hope that it's defined by change.
KYLIE MAR: Executive producer Jeff Probst
admitted that "Survivor" did not handle the situation properly--
JEFF PROBST: I want to acknowledge
and apologize for your pain.
You didn't ask for it, and you didn't deserve it.
KYLIE MAR: --and promised that, going forward,
the show would implement changes to avoid
situations like the one Kellee and others endured.
KELLEE KIM: Ultimately, my biggest hope is that each one
of us-- each individual, each institution, each organization,
and especially CBS and "Survivor" can take this,
learn from it, and do better.
You know, I fundamentally believe that we can do better.
