ALISHA GORY: My desire to be tattooed really
came from wanting to be different.
I come from a culture where everybody
kind of looks the same.
They don't really celebrate a lot of individuality.
And I've always been very different since I was a kid,
and I think that probably led to the way I am today.
My name is Alisha Gory, and I'm a tattoo artist
based in New York City.
I was born in South Korea, but I moved around all my life,
so it exposed me to a lot of different culture
and it opened my mind.
I moved to America when I was 18 for college,
and the real world really hit me, pretty much.
It was a very tough time.
Some of the extreme length that I had to go through
as an immigrant was at first I didn't know anybody or have
any families or friends here.
So I pretty much had to kind of start from zero.
It was a lot of hustling in New York City, a lot of crazy jobs.
