when did you get comfortable with being neurotic?
When did you recognize, I'm a neurotic person,
and the only way to really deal with this
is to get comfortable with it, embrace it?
BARRY SONNENFELD: That's a really good question.
I think I became--
- Asking for a friend.
BARRY SONNENFELD: I think I became
self-confident with my neuroses when I met my future wife.
I think the fact that--
I call her Sweetie.
So do the grips and electricians.
But the fact that Sweetie and I could fall in love
and be married and all that made me embrace my neurosis,
because she's sporty and smart and beautiful
and shouldn't be with someone like me.
And the fact that she is made me confident.
- So prior to that, even though you were shooting movies
for the Coen brothers in the '80s, you
were getting worldwide acclaim for those things, you were--
you were-- you did not find yourself
to be a self-confident person, although you
had met Sweetie prior to that.
BARRY SONNENFELD: I had met Sweetie--
- You just didn't marry till later.
BARRY SONNENFELD: Prior to that.
But I will say I was very--
I was a very neurotic mess.
I would constantly throw up.
I had a very nervous stomach.
I was not self-confident.
So Sweetie gets all the credit.
