- What made you want to give that character a
personal motivation like that?
Do you think that that is a way to, like
pull certain audiences in who may
not understand the philosophical opinions of the machine?
- No, I don't think in kind of strategic way
like that about these things.
It's just trying to reflect the way things are.
Broadly speaking, we live in a strange world
where strange things happen.
And the underlying physics of our life is strange.
And then the events that happen in our life is strange.
The interactions of our relationships and everything.
So it's sort of to do with what it's like to be a person trying
to maintain relationships, or happiness, or whatever,
within this completely surreal state.
I mean, it sounds a bit cute to say it,
but the most surreal stuff we encounter is actual life.
It's not surrealist paintings or films.
It's the stuff we encounter on a day-to-day level.
So it's to put our sort of lived experience
into that strange world.
